Prefer modern rock and pop to traditional Scottish melodies? You might want to head to the Concert in the Gardens instead. This spectacle of music and fireworks will feature a plethora of great acts this year, including Primal Scream playing their iconic 1991 album, Screamadelica, in its entirety.

The band will be joined on stage by Sons and Daughters, Bombay Bicycle Club and special guests Matt Norris and the Moon. Other artists due to play at this year's Hogmanay festivities include The Vaccines, CaperCaillie, Mark Ronson and The Cuban Brothers.

If you have the strength for it on January 1st, join the crowds and welcome 2012 by taking part in the annual Queensferry Loony Dook. This involves jumping into the River Forth, a tradition that dates back 25 years and has raised lots of cash for charities in the UK.

Just be warned - the river is rather cold at this time of year, so wrap up warm as soon as possible afterwards!
